EARTH INFLUENCERS

EARTH INFLUENCERS

IMG_8224.jpg

As social media influencers become the norm in our daily IG navigation; there is a new wave of influencers that are here to fight for real change and protect our planet. I call them Earth Influencers. They are people speaking out inspiring others to take a stand or simply become more conscious of our purchasing habits.

If there is anyone who stands at the forefront of fighting for our planet earth is the 11 year old activist, Greta Thunberg. During spring break I brought my son in Toronto to a worldwide protest to support Climate for Change and her school strike #FridaysForChange movement that has spread worldwide. The topic of climate change isn’t new and it is easily drowned out by all the fear based news that can diminish hopes to make effective change, but take a mindful moment of listening to one of Greta’s speeches it will reignite hope. Her candor and spirit of the younger generation is the “influencer” energy that is bringing more good to this world.

Being influenced by Greta’s moving speeches and also simply by looking in the eyes of my son I have been motivated to by more conscious of how i can contribute in small ways.

On the go, if I find myself without my travel cup I simply choose not to take a plastic lid. Recently, I looked up how long it takes for plastic to decompose in a landfill simply because it doesn’t even come into consideration for every tea I purchase but I want to more aware. It takes 1000 years! So I purchase my tea, forces me to slow down take a few minutes to wait for it too cool and take a few sips instead of grabbing and rushing off into my day. I love how little actions can force more mindfulness in the day without having to carve out time.

This is my next purchase when I am ready to switch my phone case and probably won’t purchase any other phone case in the future. When we think of all the technology waste that occurs and how quickly we move onto the next versions we overlook all the accessories that come with it and become disposable as well. The Pela Case is 100% biodegradable and every purchase goes towards helping protect mother earth.

One of my favorite purchases to reduce plastic consumption are these reusable silicon snack bags. I wish I had found them sooner. I would love to hear what discoveries you have come across that helps reduce our waste. Feel free to share so we can all be more informed with earth loving choices.
