SIT YOUR WAY

SIT YOUR WAY

Recently I came across Just Sit The Book. If you are new to meditation this is great motivation. It takes the approach of doing meditation anytime and anywhere. I believe that with the pace of living these days this approach is really helpful; no right or wrongs, just simply sit when you can and breath. No need for a special cushion, corner or even guided mediation.

If your personality is one to make a dedicated space then here is a few “sit” options depending on your style.

If you like the traditional sitting on the cushion grounded in the floor I find the most common adjustment depends on how high you want to feel on the cushion. Sometimes I will put two cushions to give more space for my legs and/or find the height helps with my posture. This organic one made by Sol Living has a nice density and their Meditation Cushion is made with 100% Organic Cotton and helps with core stability in your sit.

If you prefer to sit with full support for your back, I find these really popular in studios. They are great for longer sits. And the great thing is if you have a small space they fold up flat; also great option to double up on the usage for any outdoor festivities.

Personally, I have tight hips and so I find it most comfortable sitting on my knees or in the “seiza” position. I find the seiza kneeling position helps in maintaining a long spine easier because it helps tilt the pelvis whcih automatically creates a lengthening of the spine. If you like in this position, a little meditation stool allows for space for your legs either in a kneeling or cross-legged “burmese” position.
